A Message From Our CEO: Black Lives Matter
New Energy Equity shares the sadness, revulsion and outrage of so many others at the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25. Regretfully, we are also aware that Mr. Floyd’s death was not unique in our society – it was not even rare. Names such as Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Philando Castile, Laquan McDonald, Walter Scott, Michael Brown and Eric Garner are familiar to us as though they were celebrities rather than victims of injustice and discrimination, and yet we know that there are many more victims whose names we do not know, who have suffered and died in the shadows. This is unacceptable and it is a tragic shortcoming in what we can and should be as a nation. At New Energy Equity, Black Lives Matter.
We develop many projects each year in Minnesota, and the tumult we are seeing there disturbs us. We are concerned for our partners, our customers and our fellow citizens. We know from long experience that Minnesota is a wonderful place filled with wonderful people and that they, like all of us, deserve better than what happened to George Floyd. For our part, we must join with our partners, elected officials, customers and other allies to truly tackle the ingrained problem of institutional racism in America.
Racism and other forms of discrimination, whether based on gender, race, age, physical abilities, or sexual orientation is strictly prohibited by NEE and within any project in which we participate. It is contrary to everything we stand for. All our efforts here are for the betterment of the world we live in, and we insist that each member of our team know that and share that commitment. There is no room for hate or division at New Energy Equity.
Stay hopeful. Have the uncomfortable conversation. Treat each other with love and respect.
